Sources that are close to Dr Bukola Saraki have revealed that the Senate president has perfected contingency plans to defect to the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) if the All Progressive Congress (APC) senators begin impeachment processes against him when the Senate reconvenes tomorow
We had earlier revealed that Dr Saraki alongside 15 like minded senators of the APC have perfected plans to defect to the PDP in order to avoid Saraki’s impeachment but the Senate president is believed to have softened that stance since it will still be a futile effort if he is found guilty by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). That line of action has now been arranged as a second option if the Senators begin impeachment processes against him

The PDP were yesterday rumoured to have prepared Senator David Mark and Saraki’s current Deputy; Ike Ekweremadu as replacements for Saraki but the party’s spokesperson; Olisa Metuh has rubbished those rumours and even went as far as saying that Mr Saraki still retains the support of the party-a statement invariably says he is welcomed back to the party
The House of Senate is made up of 109 senator with one senator missing due to death. Of the remainder, 60 are APC members with the remaining 48 PDP. The rule clearly states that a minority senator cannot be the Senate president which means that the former Kwara governor needs to take at least 7 senators with him to the PDP for him to remain Senate President-he currently boasts of more than 15
Meanwhile, Dr Saraki and likemind members of the Senate have started meeting with Emirs in order to influence the judgement of the Code Of Conduct Tribunal (CCT)-his first option in retaining his position as senate president
Sources have told TheNation that he urged the emirs to prevail on the Federal Government to drop charges against him. A highly-placed source said: “Some loyalists of Saraki are really pushing for political option. This is why they have been reaching out to prominent emirs and chiefs in the North.
I think Saraki is buying into the rapprochement by meeting with some emirs where he explained his own side and how things could be straightened.
For instance on Saturday, Saraki had audience with some emirs and chiefs from the North in connection with his travails and how to resolve the matter amicably.”
