Breaking News: President Buhari appoints Femi Adesina, Garba Shehu as Spokesmen

Abuja, Nigeria, 31 May 2015: President Muhammadu Buhari has announced the first set of appointments into his administration.

The President on Sunday evening, May 31st 2015 named Mr Femi Adesina and Mal. Garba Shehu as his spokesmen. Femi Adesina will serve as Special Adviser (Media and Publicity) while Garba Shehu will be the new Senior Special Assistant (Media and Publicity).

The President has also approved the appointment of Mal. Lawal Abdullahi Kazaure as the State Chief of Protocol (SCOP).

An ex corps member, Ezemagu Sunday Nnamdi is honoring the out-going President Goodluck Jonathan by creating a sculpture of him.
Nnamdi is said to have donated N10,000 for the cause and started creating the sculpture 2weeks ago in Otuoke in Bayelsa State.
He also reportedly donated N2m to Jonathan's presidential campaign....

Bayelsa state senator-elect Mr. Ben Murray Bruce spoke on issues relating to accountability and transparency in government.
He said:

I have not criticised any government. I have not criticised APC. I have not criticised PDP. I have not criticised Goodluck Jonathan, neither have I criticised Muhammadu Buhari. I have raised good government issues and policy issues.

These are issues that I have raised all my life. Maybe these people on social media have just discovered Ben Bruce but, go and check the speeches I made two years ago, three years ago, twenty years ago, even in front of President Goodluck Jonathan to ascertain whether they are different from what I am saying now; maybe they just discovered me. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) have called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo to declare their assets publicly in line with their promises for transparency and accountability.In a statement issued by the group ,they said

We welcome the official declaration of assets by the President and Vice President. This clearly complies with the requirements of the Nigerian Constitution as contained in Chapter VI Section 140. However, the declaration before the Code of Conduct alone falls far short of the commitment to publicly declare their assets.”“SERAP recalls that the President had said before the election that he would publicly declare his assets and liabilities, and encourage all his appointees to publicly declare their assets and liabilities as a pre-condition for appointment. We now expect the President to fulfil this promise to the Nigerian people,”SERAP trusts that the President and Vice President will move swiftly to publicly declare their assets and to publish widely the information on a dedicated website.”

Members of the Boko Haram sect during the weekend attacked two Yobe towns, Fika and Ngalda, carting away foodstuff.
The extremists shot sporadically upon their arrival to scare away people so as to have ample opportunity to loot.

This time it is at Moru-Moru market at Gamboru in Maiduguri Borno state. 4 persons have so far been confirmed dead. These recent bomb attacks come 48 hours after President Buhari said the Command and Control center of the Nigerian Army will be relocated to Maiduguri until Bomb Haram is defeated.

THE All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has said that despite the assumption of office of Governor Nyesom Wike, it was confident that he would be removed by the election petition tribunal.

Wike won on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party during the April 2015 elections.

The state chairman of the APC, Dr. Davies Ikanya, in a statement made available on Saturday, said Wike was unjustly declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He advised the governor not to embark on any long term project, adding that he (Wike) has a short time to stay in office.

A U.S. Marine is fighting to overturn her conviction after she refused to remove a Bible verse from her work station.

A religious liberty law firm has filed an appeal on behalf of the marine after she was prosecuted for refusing to remove the Bible verse, which was attached to her computer.

Lance Corporal Monifa Sterling was convicted in a court martial after she did not follow the order to remove the small paper with writings of the Bible from her computer.

The State House’s (Office of the President, Federal Republic of Nigeria) official website, www.statehouse.gov.ng on Saturday still has ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and former Vice President Namadi Sambo as being in charge of the country.

But Jonathan and Sambo had since been replaced by President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on May 29.

While the ex-president and the former vice president had returned to their bases, Buhari and Osinbajo are expected to reside in the State House.

Leader of the Ijaw Youth Council, Mr. Asari Dokubo, has condemned the amnesty granted to the ex-Niger Delta militants by the late president, Umaru Yar’adua.

According to him, this was a bribe to allow oil flow from the Niger Delta region to the North. He said that was the reason he rejected the offer.

Dokubo, who gave the clarification during the 2015 MASSOB day celebration, held in Owerri, Imo State, also faulted the national conference organised by the Federal Government, insisting that the exercise did not represent the views of the Niger Delta region that is yearning for a referendum.

Beau Biden, the 46-year-old son of Vice President Joe Biden, died Saturday after a battle with brain cancer. The Biden family announced the news around 9:45pm last night.

In a statement, the Biden family said: ‘It is with broken hearts that Hallie, Hunter, Ashley, Jill and I announce the passing of our husband, brother and son, Beau, after he battled brain cancer with the same integrity, courage and strength he demonstrated every day of his life.’
Biden, who lived in Wilmington, Delaware, served as a major in the state’s National Guard, and later as the Delaware Attorney General.

A suicide bomber has killed himself and 16 others outside a mosque in the Nigerian city Maiduguri.
Trader Ali Bakomi said the bomber was pushing a wheelbarrow and then joined a crowd of people in front of the mosque in the biggest city in Nigeria's troubled northeast.
Officials told Borno state Gov. Kashim Shettima that the bomber killed himself and 16 other people.
The bombing came hours after rocket-propelled grenades exploded into homes before dawn. They killed at least 13 people and injured more, according to resident Idrissa Mandara.

President Muhammadu Buhari has warned against stoppage of officials of past administrations from traveling abroad .The president says all officials including ministers are entitled to their full rights and privileges under the constitution and must not be subjected to any undue harassment and intimidation at the airports or at other points of entry and exit.

Responding to some cases of “V.I.P stoppages” at the airports as reported to him on Saturday, a statement by Garba Shehu, Head of Buhari’s media team read..

A robbery gang, which specialised in disguising as bank customers and robbing unsuspecting wealthy bank patrons, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command.Our correspondent gathered that the three-man gang, which allegedly operated in the FESTAC Town area, was nabbed by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad after one of their victims reported his encounter with them to the police.

Metro learnt that two members of the gang ─ Chinedu Okeke and Kolawole Best ─ were arrested while a third member, identified only as Ben, is still at large.

The Christian owners of a bakery found to have discriminated against gay marriage after refusing to bake a Bert and Ernie cake have said they will appeal the court ruling.

A judge at Belfast County Court ruled that Ashers Baking Company acted unlawfully by declining an order from gay rights activist Gareth Lee last year.

Mr Lee, a member of the LGBT advocacy group Queer Space, ordered a cake featuring Sesame Street puppets Bert and Ernie with the slogan ‘Support Gay Marriage’.

A family of five and 6 other individuals were among those who were killed in a gun battle between Boko Haram members and Nigerian troops in Dala, Borno state yesterday May 29th.

According to reports, the terrorist, who came in their numbers, had tried to invade Maiduguri, the Borno state capital but met a strong resistance from the troops stationed in the area. Many residents were seriously injured as they tried running to safety. The troops repelled the attack.

The remains of veteran actor, Peter Bunor who died earlier this month following protracted illness will be laid to rest today at his home-town, Ogwash-Uku in Delta State.

According to funeral arrangements released by the family, the Service of songs took place yesterday Friday, May 29, 2015 at his residence located along Dominion Hostel, through Nshiagu College, Delta State Polytechnic Road, Ogwash-Uku.

Funeral service and internment will hold at the same venue today Saturday, May 30 from 10am while reception follows immediately at the same venue. May his soul rest in Peace.. Amen

In a series of shocking allegations that have left his parents heartbroken, a 21-year-old undergraduate, Demilade Osholonge, who was initially reported as kidnapped, has accused his father and mother of engaging in occultism which he alleged was behind the many spiritual attacks he had been experiencing since he was 17.

Demilade spoke with Punch in hiding, maintaining that he would never return home to his father, Mr. Fatayi Osholonge, a lawyer and his mother, Olufunke, who is an evangelist.

Soft-spoken, with a mien that gave a hint of the affluent home he came from (a fact he confirmed), Demilade went into a narration that sounded much like a story out of a novel.

Singer Madonna was slammed by fans after appearing to make reference to her 14 year old son's eggplant in an Instagram post. A few days ago, she uploaded a video of her son Rocco Ritchie doing a backflip in a garden while wearing a pair of bright orange boxer briefs and wrote;

"Rocco's preferred profile #nosausage," Some laughed but others thought it was wildly inappropriate and really insulted her. Is there anything wrong in what she said? #nosausage is the issue here...
