Amnesty International, one of the biggest human-rights groups in the world, is calling for prostitution to be legalized worldwide. But it’s facing major backlash from human trafficking groups, who say that could do more harm than good Marie Claire an international monthly magazine for women, revealed.
The Magazine also said that, in August, the group will ask its delegates to vote on a proposal that calls for the decriminalization of sex work. The proposal makes it clear that human trafficking for sexual exploitation should be criminalized around the world, and certainly if the prostitution involves children. “Criminalization, in its varying forms, exposes sex workers to increased risk of human rights abuses,” the proposal reads.

Members of the National Association of Delta State Students, NADESSTU, have threatened to shut down the capital city of Asaba, if their 2013/2014 bursary was not paid in the next two weeks.
NADESSTU in a communiqué at the end of its emergency meeting at Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, said that the students were no longer happy with the development, adding that any further delay in the payment of the bursary may lead to students’ unrest in the state.

The just past Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency [NIMASA], Patrick Ziakede Akpobolokemi, has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested, two weeks after he was fired from his post.
A source in NIMASA told PREMIUM TIMES Mr. Akpobolokemi was arrested in Lagos Thursday morning and was detained at the Lagos office of the EFCC in the Ikoyi area of the city.

The Nigerian Air Force has announced that its patrol and surveillanc activities have succeeded in blocking routes through which petroleum products and other materials are supplied to the extremist Boko Haram sect.
